Vancouver police are investigating after a man was assaulted and discovered hours later in the Strathcona Park tent encampment.

“This is a disturbing case considering how seriously the victim was assaulted and the length of time he was laying on the ground injured without any help,” said Const. Tania Visintin.

“The victim is in critical but stable condition,” she said.

An unresponsive man was found in the park on Monday evening by BC Ambulance Services after someone called 911. According to a witness, the man had been lying there for some time before paramedics were called.

Police believe the man may have lain on the ground for up to 12 hours before the 911 call was made. The man was transported to hospital.

“The victim is in critical but stable condition,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD. “This is a disturbing case considering how seriously the victim was assaulted and the length of time he was laying on the ground injured without any help.”

The victim is believed to be in his late 20s with dark hair and a beard on his chin. He may be Caucasian or Indigenous.  Anyone with information can contact VPD detectives at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
