B.C. health officials confirmed 50 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and one additional death.

The updated numbers from Health Minister Adrian Dix and Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, bring total cases in British Columbia to 3,641 and deaths to 195.

Dix and Henry also confirmed an outbreak at Dania Home, a long-term care facility in Burnaby. There are now three health-care facilities contending with active outbreaks.

There are 278 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. Five people are hospitalized, with two in intensive care.

It is the second time in as many weeks that cases have reached 50, as the province continues to see a surge in cases connected to activity around the Canada Day long weekend.

Dix and Henry urged residents to socialize safely this weekend, and directed people to Dr. Bonnie Henry’s Good Times Guide on the government of British Columbia website.
