Cornhole tournament fundraiser to benefit Highlands Youth Wrestling

Highlands Youth Wrestling will host a cornhole tournament at 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at the New Kensington Eagles, 2134 Freeport Road, New Kensington.

Cost is $50 per team. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first place and runner up teams.

Free movie planned in Boyce Park

The free Allegheny County Family Drive-in Movie planned Tuesday in Boyce Park airfield parking lot will be, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” rated PG.

Gates open at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk. There is a 100-vehicle limit, first-come, first served. Refreshments will be available. The event is sponsored by the Allegheny Regional Asset District.


Christopher’s Light charity accepting donations

Children’s charity Christopher’s Light is collecting gently worn or new coats in sizes newborn to 14/16 for children in our community.

Donations can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays at 202 Point St., Saltsburg. For alternate drop off sites, text 724-980-2840.

To send a monetary donation, send a check made out to Christopher’s Light to P.O. Box 94, Apollo PA 15613.

Hydrant flushing to begin in Plum

Plum Municipal Authority will flush hydrants Sept. 28 through Oct. 30.

No work will be done on the weekends. Customers may experience low pressure and should test water before doing laundry or drawing large quantities of water because it may be discolored. Water color usually clears within a few hours.

Oct. 1: Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley is taking orders for a Fat Cat’s Subs hoagie sale. Varieties: Italian, turkey and ham and cheese. Cost: $8, cash or check payable at pickup.
