The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is asking the public for dash camera footage that could help with its investigation into a targeted shooting that happened at a Richmond restaurant last week.

The incident took place on the evening of Sept. 18 at Manzo Itamae Japanese Restaurant on Capstan Way. Two men were shot and one, 44-year-old Jian Jun Zhu, died from his injuries. The other, Paul King Jin, was wounded and has since been released from hospital.

“This was a brazen shooting that could have resulted in further victims,” said IHIT’s Sgt. Frank Jang.

Police say both men are well known to police and the shooting is believed to be targeted, but not connected to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict “or any of the other recent acts of violence.”

Zhu was suspected of being a player in B.C.’s biggest money-laundering investigation. In that case, as much as $200 million was alleged to have been laundered in one year. Jin is alleged to have been involved in illegal gambling and laundering criminal proceeds through an underground bank Zhu ran, called Silver International.
